INDIVIDUAL THERAPY FOR WOMEN
Individual therapy covers a wide range of issues. Just because you need someone to talk to do not mean that “there is something wrong” with you or that you have a “mental illness”. It just means getting a different perspective on what brought you to therapy.
I enjoy working with women exploring personal growth and the desire to live a life of purpose, happiness and connection who may be feeling stifled in their personal journey such as:
I enjoy working with women exploring personal growth and the desire to live a life of purpose, happiness and connection who may be feeling stifled in their personal journey such as:
- Staying stuck in the problem, unable to move obstacles to recovery
- Feeling stuck or at a turning point in your life
- Struggling to "find herself" due to life changes
- Dealing with low self worth, poor body image, or shame
- Struggling to define and redefine a life purpose
- Struggling being present in your life
- Struggling to develop an Intuition
It is very gratifying to work with those who are self-reflective and can gain insight and motivation for personal growth. Your renewed self will walk away stronger and clearer about who you are, and how you want to move forward in your life.
Why you should go to therapy
When is it’s time to seek therapy |
When you are struggling to gain insight into what’s ailing you. You have trouble getting clear on what it is that you want. Seeking therapy can help you figure out what is in your best interest; and then it can help you move forward in that direction.
|
You are feeling significant distress
|
Which usually means that most things in your life is not working. You can’t shift the emotional weight off on you and you may start to suffer from trouble sleep, can’t concentrate, or having issues at work. You may become anxious and/or depressed which can cause greater distress.
|
You tried everything
|
From self-help to books to journaling and beyond but nothing has worked to alleviate feelings of distress or discontentment. You can often get stuck when you know “intellectually” what to do but not know "emotionally" how to do it - to decrease what is causing you distress.
|
Everybody is tired of listening to you
|
Many women tend to comfy in their close friends and family without really taking into consideration the emotional toil it may leave on them. Often time friends and family mean well by trying to make the decisions for you because they are honestly tired of talking about the same issues over and over. Keep your support system but it may be time for you to go to therapy where you can figure out on your own what is best for you.
|
You are grieving a loss that has become overwhelming
|
Grief is a common experience of all humankind. Whether it is a love one, a job, or an unresolved loss from childhood; unresolved grief can cause decreased concentration, numbness, disrupted sleep, and a range of negative thoughts and feelings. Grief therapy helps to process the loss and move through the grief process in a healthy way.
|
Other reasons to go therapy
|
You have a history of trauma such as physical, emotional, or sexual abuse that causes you distress. Trauma can leave you struggling with upsetting emotions, memories, and anxiety that won’t go away. It can also leave you feeling numb, disconnected, and unable to trust other people. It is important that you have someone to share your feelings and listens without judgement.

Some benefits of therapy
|
|
If you’re willing to do the work, therapy can be rewarding. It’s a safe, judgment-free space where you can share anything with someone who is there to help you.

Wellness for Women
Counseling specific to the unique stressors women face due to certain biological and psychological challenges related to gender, in which these concerns may have a significant impact on mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being. Some of these stressors include major responsibilities such as being the primary caretaker at home for children and aging parents, dealing with sexism at work, single parenthood, loss of a significant relationship, just to name few. In addition, women's reproductive events including pregnancy, the post-pregnancy period, infertility, menopause, and sometimes, the decision not to have children, can also cause stress.
“Wellness is a holistic integration of physical, mental, and spiritual well-being, fueling the body, engaging the mind, and nurturing the spirit. Wellness is about living fully. It is a personalized approach to living life in a way that allows you to become the best kind of person that your potentials, circumstances, and fate will allow” -Debbie L. Stoewen
Learning about the Eight Dimensions of Wellness can help you choose how to make wellness a part of your everyday life. Care should be given to all the dimensions, as neglect of any one over time will adversely affect the others, and eventually one’s health, well-being, and quality of life. They do not, however, have to be equally balanced. You should strive for a “personal harmony” that feels most authentic to you. You naturally have your own priorities, approaches, and desires, including your own views of what it means to live life fully.
The Eight Dimensions of Wellness Explained:
- Emotional— Managing your emotions in a way that promotes appropriate responses/reactions towards' self and others
- Spiritual— Finding purpose, value, and meaning in your life with or without organized religion
- Intellectual— Valuing lifelong learning, and maintaining an openness to intellectual growth and challenges
- Physical— Caring for your body in a manner that supports lifelong health
- Environmental—Understanding and an awareness of your social, natural, and man-made environments affect on your health and well-being
- Financial— Managing your resources to live without financial stress, and to have satisfaction with future financial situations
- Occupational— Participating in work that is personally meaningful and rewarding, and that is consistent with your values, goals, and lifestyle
- Social— Developing and maintaining healthy relationships, enjoying being with others, developing friendships and intimate relations, caring about others, and letting others care about you
Wellness is an intentional and active process of consciously choosing to improve one's overall quality of life.
